The Conficker virus has infected more than
8 million computers so far. These compromised
computers can be the exploited in several
ways. Conficker can download additional
malicious software such as password stealers,
remote applications that could allow someone
to control your computer, etc.
How Is It Spread?
Conficker has been known to spreas itself
in the following three ways
- Entering computers that have not been
patched with Windows Update KB958644
- Using brute force to guess passwords on
administrative shares
- Spread from machine to machine by an
autorun file on removable media such as
flash drives.
How Do I Protect
Yourself?
- Go to Control panel and make sure
Windows Update is installed. If not, go
here to download and install it
- Make sure your firewall is on
- Run the latest issue of the Windows
Malicious Software Removal Tool to scrub
it off of your computer.
- Disable Autorun
